Digital Exams and Take-Home-Exams (THE)
The current legal requirements for digital examinations:
At the end of 2021, the Faculty Council passed amendment statutes to the examination regulations. With these, there is now a secure legal basis for the taking of so-called “electronic examinations” as well as for conducting other types of examinations via remote data networks (online examinations). The background for this adjustment was an amendment to the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) of 17.06.2021.
The official announcements with the changes to the examination regulations of the Faculty of Humanities for degree programmes leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees were regularly published on the CampusCentre homepage (in german). Due to their relevance for digitally supported teaching, we are also making them directly available here:

“Take-Home-Exam” (THE) exam alternative:
In recent semesters, an alternative form to classroom examinations, the so-called “Take-Home-Exam” (THE), has proven itself in many scenarios due to its diverse implementation variants. We have compiled information, manuals and templates on this below:
- General information on “Take-Home-Exams” (THE) in the ePortal of the eNetwork at UHH (in german).
- Manual for conducting a THE on AGORA.
- Manual for conducting a THE in OpenOlat (in german).
- For teaching staff who would like to conduct a THE using OpenOlat, a preconfigured course template (in german) is also available on the OpenOlat website. It can be accessed via the directory of the same name in the OpenOLAT catalogue or via the previously marked link.
- In addition, an annotated learning path course template (in german) is available in OpenOlat.
